Tips For Expectant Moms And Dads!

It is important to create a birth plan when you are pregnant.  Waiting until labor begins can lead to hasty decisions and actions that can ruin your childbirth experience.  From what kinds, if any, medications you wish to have during birth, to making sure someone is ready to drive you to the hospital when the time comes.  There are many important decisions to be made.

birthTry babysitting a friend’s baby to get more comfortable with caring for a newborn. Having some hands on experience will help you feel more comfortable with the impending birth of your new baby. Don’t take off more than you can chew though as you get farther along in your pregnancy.

Don’t stop using a seat belt in your car while driving or riding as a passenger. The danger to your baby from the seat belt is much less than the danger from you being loose in the car in the event of a crash.  Make sure the belt is as low on your hips as possible, preferably underneath your belly.

There are many herbs to stay away from while pregnant.  While many people would not normally use these herbs, there are some quite common ones that are used in cooking that should not be consumed in large amounts.  Rosemary, parsley, sage and turmeric, are some common cooking spices that should be avoided in large amounts.

When trying to get pregnant, remember that it can take up to a year for this to happen so do try not to stress too much if it does not happen straight away. The stress can negatively impact on your attempts even further. If you are over 35, and have been trying for more than six months, seek the advice of your doctor.

Keep your stress under control during pregnancy by making to do lists and setting your priorities so that the important tasks will be done first.  Sometimes you can delegate items on your list to helpful family and friends.  At other times, there may be things that you can eliminate from the list.

Taking prenatal vitamins is essential.  Your body needs extra nutrition before, during and after your pregnancy.  If you are planning on becoming pregnant, start taking these vitamins well before.  If you are already pregnant, it’s not too late to start.  You will still get the benefits of it.  Keep taking them well beyond giving birth.  At least until you stop breast feeding.

As shown in this article, having a birth plan ready before childbirth can significantly decrease stress and emotional upset when labor begins.  Making sure all the important decisions are made beforehand can contribute in a big way toward having a happy, worry-free childbirth, which is just as it should be!
